Grade II Listed Cottage, Albourne
In the face of a period cottage riddled with design and installation challenges, Colliers created this stunning kitchen, which balances practicality, character and finesse.
Our designer succeeded in working with—rather than against—the numerous peculiarities of this room. Not only does it include many exposed beams, but none of its walls run straight or square. This meant that panels had to be expertly scribed to the walls and around the beams, so as not to leave any unsightly gaps. Another challenge involved delivering and installing an impressive Sub-Zero Pro48 fridge freezer, which fits like a (very large) glove into the area under the raised ceiling. Meanwhile, generous Gaggenau ovens slot perfectly into the area left by the old chimney breast, to make the most efficient use of all the available space.
Wowed by the finished product, guests would be none the wiser about all the challenges that stood behind it. The bespoke Loxley units and splashes of walnut pick up on the property’s period charm, while the units in F&B Elephant’s Breath brighten the room. The curved units endow the design with an effortless elegance, which is topped off with exquisite handles, some inset with Swarovski crystals.
